FAQs

Who is Peters Therapy Group?

Peters Therapy Group is a trusted psychotherapy clinic based in St. Catharines, Ontario, offering in-person and virtual counselling services for children, teens, adults and couples across the Niagara Region and all of Ontario. Our team of licensed therapists specializes in mental health support for anxiety, depression, trauma, parenting challenges, perinatal and postpartum issues, and relationship concerns. Known for our compassionate, evidence-based approach, Peters Therapy Group is one of Niagara’s most reputable therapy clinics, dedicated to helping clients navigate life’s challenges and improve their emotional well-being.

What should I look for in my workplace benefits booklet to see if I’m covered for your services?

All of our registered therapist’s fees are eligible for reimbursement under workplace benefits plans provided that you have the available coverage. In your benefits plan / booklet under your paramedical or mental health coverage, look for Psychotherapists and Social Workers. While it’s not common, we occasionally see plans only offer coverage for Social Workers and not Psychotherapists. You are ultimately responsible to ensure you have applicable and available coverage. Please note that Peters Therapy Group does not currently offer services for Psychologists or Psychiatrists. If you want to confirm if you have coverage, simply reach out to us.

What therapy approaches do our therapists use?

Each of our therapists are uniquely trained and experienced in a range of evidence-based and integrative approaches. To see which therapists offer which approaches below, you can read each of their bios on our about page. Some of the approaches offered include:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS)

  • Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT)

  • Gottman Method Couples Therapy

  • and more.

Our therapists often take an approach that combines multiple modalities to best support your goals.

What if I can’t find my “issue” above?

All of our experiences are unique to us and our families, and sometimes don’t fit neatly into a box! If the challenges you’re seeking support around aren’t listed here, please reach out to us here to chat further, and if we don’t have the expertise you’re looking for, we would love to point you in the direction of another therapist!

Do you offer EMDR treatment?

While some of our therapists are trained and offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), our approach is holistic, and it is just one tool in the toolbox. We’re happy to chat with you more about whether or not we feel EMDR therapy is one approach we’ll consider. We offer EMDR treatment both without headphones or with a headphone device.

If I live outside of Niagara, can I still book a virtual / online appointment with you?

Absolutely! As Registered Social Workers with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, and Registered Psychotherapists with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, we can provide support to anyone living in Ontario.

Do you offer Direct Billing for my work benefits?

Yes! We can direct bill many work benefit companies, including Manulife, Sun Life, Canada Life, GreenShield, Desjardins, and more. If we can’t direct bill your specific extended-health benefits company, you’ll automatically be emailed an invoice with all the information you need to submit to your benefits. Please note that while “Qualifying” psychotherapists cannot provide direct billing, you will still receive a receipt that can be submitted to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

I’ve booked my first appointment! What can I expect?

We’re looking forward to meeting you! You’ll receive an appointment confirmation email right away! Prior to your first appointment you’ll receive an intake form and a consent form to be completed. If you’ve booked a virtual appointment, you will be sent the secure link to join the appointment about 30 minutes prior to the appointment start time.

If you are coming to our office, simply enter by the LifeLabs, use the stairs or elevator, and our newly renovated clinic is at the end of the hall on the right!

Are therapy appointments in person or online?

Whatever works best for you! After years of moving our lives primarily online through the pandemic, we’re happy to offer in-person support at our welcoming and newly renovated space in St. Catharines, and virtual support to those in Niagara and across Ontario!

How old does my child need to be to attend therapy?

While we work to support families with children of all ages, we do require some parental involvement in sessions for children under the age of 12, and strongly encourage parental involvement in our work with all children and youth. This dynamic will look different on a case-by-case basis and will be discussed in an initial consultation or first appointment.

Can I bring my baby to my appointment with me?

Absolutely! Virtual or in-person, babies are welcome to join!

Our therapists are specialists in their unique areas of expertise.
